Fight Card Entertainment's Massacre

FCE Massacre June 30, 2012

All in all a good card with a very exciting fight in Tito Garcia vs. Mike McGovern which had the crowd on their feet for almost the entire fight and two surprising title changes to end the night.  The atmosphere in the Sports Zone in Melrose Park was great and a lot of the fighters had a strong fan base in the crowd.  Enjoy the results!

Fight 1:  Alex Lagunas vs. Joe Lux (Featherweight)

Round 1:  The fighters touch gloves.  Lux comes out swinging right after.  Lagunas punches back.  Lagunas shoots and pushes Lux against the cage.  Lagunas picks him up for the double and slams him hard!  Lagunas gets into side control.  Lux gets a hold of his head.  Lagunas pops his head out and quickly takes his back.  Lagunas now mounted on Lux’s back.  He peppers him with punches and the punches get harder.  Lux stops moving.  The referee stops the fight!

Official Decision:  :50 in rd 1 via TKO, Alex Lagunas(Side note:  Lux is very slow to get up after the referee’s stoppage.  He is fine after doctor and his corner checked on him.)

 

Fight 2:  Mike Velez vs. Jaime Peak (Welterweight)

Round 1:  The fighters touch gloves.  Velez with a hard leg kick.  Peak with a punch to come back.  Velez with a standing leg sweep and he gets into side control.  Velez possibly looking for an arm triangle.  Velez pushing the action against the cage.  Peak tries to wall walk.  Peak is successful but Velez is right back on him.  They clinch against the cage and Velez gets the leg sweep and is in half guard.  Peak with an active guard trying to escape.  Velez now in side control.  Action is now in the middle of the cage.  Velez throws a couple of punches while in side control.  Peak is unsuccessful in getting wrist control.  Velez transitions to mount.  Velez postures up and throws down punches.  Peak sweeping and is now in full guard, but Velez quickly transitions and is now in side control and quickly gets back to full mount.  Velez is holding Peak down.  End of round.

Round 2:  Peak misses a jab.  Peak goes for a straight right and Velez punches him and Peak goes down.  Velez gets back control.  Velez is looking for the rear naked choke.  Peak doing his best to escape.  Peak taps!

Official Decision:  0:40 of rd 2 via tap out due to rear naked choke, Mike Velez.

 

Fight 3:  Mike McGovern vs. Tito Garcia (Welterweight)

Round 1:  Touch gloves.  Garcia comes out firing and McGovern counters him.  Garcia pushes him against the cage.  Clinch.  McGovern is now on the outside.  McGovern is throwing his shoulder to Garcia’s chin.  McGovern goes down for the double.  Garcia grabs a hold of his neck.  They go down.  McGovern gets his head free.  McGovern is raining down punches.  Garcia holds him down in full guard.  McGovern posturing up.  Throwing down punches.  McGovern is back in Garcia’s full guard.  Garcia throws up the triangle.  McGovern trying to get free and he does.  McGovern now in half guard.  McGovern attempting to get some room to throw down punches.  McGovern throws a knee to the side.  Garcia attempts to sweep and gives up his back.  McGovern now with both hooks in.  Garcia avoiding the choke with wrist control.  McGovern throwing punches from behind.  McGovern is now in back mount and throwing down punches.  End of round.

Round 2:  McGovern throws a straight left that knocks Garcia down.  McGovern pounces on him and gets his back.  McGovern has a body triangle.  Garcia is trying to avoid the choke.  McGovern is looking hard for the choke.  McGovern throwing some punches from behind.  Garcia is doing all he can to avoid getting finished.  McGovern not letting his grip loosen up.  Garcia transitions and is now in McGovern’s full guard.  Garcia posturing up and throwing down some heavy punches.  Garcia ends up in the half guard of McGovern.  Garcia is throwing down bombs.  McGovern is trying to hold him down.  McGovern is trying to escape Garcia’s onslaught.  Garcia is now in side control.  Garcia transitions to north-south.  Garcia throwing punches to McGovern’s body.  Hard hammer fists to the ribs.  Garcia is now in the other side, in side control, throwing down punches.  McGovern escapes and they’re back on their feet.  Garcia shoots and pushes the action to the cage.  End of round.  (Excellent, exciting end to the round that had the entire crowd going.)

Round 3:  Touch gloves.  Garcia with punches.  McGovern comes back.  Garcia clinches against the cage.  McGovern gets the leg sweep but Garcia ends up on top.  Garcia is looking for an armbar after a brief scramble.  McGovern escapes and ends up in full guard.  Garcia throws up a triangle attempt and McGovern escapes.  McGovern is on his feet throwing down punches.  McGovern ends up in side control and Garcia transitions into full guard.  Garcia is holding McGovern down.  Garcia throwing punches from bottom.  Garcia opens up his guard.  Garcia utilizing rubber guard.  Now in full guard.  Garcia with another triangle attempt.  McGovern escapes and ends up in side control.  Both are on their knees staring at each other.  McGovern shoots from his knees and Garcia catches him in a front choke.  McGovern turtling up and Garcia throwing down punches.  Scramble and Garcia is now in McGovern’s full guard.  Garcia is on his feet throwing down bombs while in McGovern’s full guard.  McGovern holds Garcia down.  Both throw punches while on the ground.  End of round.  The fighters hug and show each other respect.

Official Decision:  29-28 unanimous decision, Tito Garcia. (side note:  My early pick for FOTN.  Great action and had the crowd going from the ending of the 2nd round and the entire 3rd round.  Great back and forth action and a great show of respect at the end.)

 

Fight 4:  Alex Garcia vs. Brett Hedrington (130 lb catchweight)

Round 1:  The fighters are circling.  Hedrington shoots for the double and Garcia sprawls and holds on to his head.  Garcia pushes him over and gets into full mount.  Garcia peppering him with quick punches while mounted.  Hedrington taps out!

Official Decision:  0:35 of rd 1 via tap out due to strikes, Alex Garcia.

 

Fight 5:  Alexis Dederfield vs Jessica Huerer (Muay Thai 145 lbs)

Round 1:  Heurer with a body kick.  Dederfield with leg kicks.  Both throwing flurries of punches and kicks at each other.  Heurer goes for the clinch and throws knees to the body.  Heurer with a hard body kick.  Dederfield answers with a punch to the head.  They exchange kicks and punches.  Heurer getting the better of the exchange.  Heurer now stalking Dederfield and throwing more precise punches and kicks.  Heuerer with a clinch.  Dederfield tries to answer with punches to the body.  Heurer is chasing Dederfield with body kicks.  They clinch.  Heuerer with knees to the body and punches.  Dederfield with her own strikes.  Heurer still getting the better of the exchanges.  Dederfield now finding her second wind.  Heurer seems tired.  End of round.

Round 2:  Heurer opens with a hard body kick.  Dederfield trying to answer back.  Dederfield connects with some nice straights to the head.  Heurer’s hits are more crisp than Dederfield’s.  Heurer with leg kicks.  Dederfield still going forward.  They clinch and are broken up.  Heurer with a leg kick.  Dederfield coming forward and not stopping.  Dederfield now getting the better of Heurer.  They clinch.  Broken up.  Heurer with another body kick.  They exchange punches.  Dederfield not backing up even if Heurer is hitting her harder.  Dederfield with hard straights to the head.  Heurer clinching.  Dederfield not having it.  Dederfield coming forward.  They exchange wild hooks.  End of round.  (side note:  Both are just about out of gas.  It’s just on who can last now)

Round 3:  Heurer still going with the body kick.  Dederfield going forward and punching.  Heurer with kicks and punches.  Dederfield coming back with punches.  Dederfield backing Heurer up with punches.  Heurer with a plum and throwing knees to the body.  Heurer throws Dederfield down.  Restart.  Heurer with a leg kick.  Dederfield with a hard leg kick of her own.  Heurer with kicks.  Dederfield doesn’t back up.  Clinch.  Break up.  Restart.  Dederfield coming forward with wild hooks.  Heurer with wild hooks also.  Both are very tired.  Heurer with a clinch.  Break up.  Restart.  Heurer with another body kick.  Wild hooks from both ladies.  Dederfield coming forward like the terminator and throwing punches.  End of round.

Official Decision:  29-28, 30-27, 30-27, unanimous decision; Jessica Heurer

 

Fight 6:  Rudy Behena vs. Sean Gee (Featherweight)

Round 1:  Circling.  Gee attacks with punches.  Behena clinches and shoots.  Gee keeps him away with hard hooks.  Behena turtles up.  Gee pounces on him.  Gee looking for his back.  Behena is trying to get on top.  Gee with a body lock on the ground.  Behena gets on top in Gee’s full guard.  Behena is looking to rain down punches.  Behena looking to transition to side control and does, and quickly goes into full mount.  Gee sweeps and gets on top in Behena’s full guard.  Behena throws up the triangle.  Behena has it in tight.  Gee trying to escape.  Gee pushing forward trying to get to the fence.  Behena lets the triangle go.  Behena is looking to transition into a gogoplata.  And he tries to go for a knee bar.  Gee spins out and is now on top in half guard.  Gee stands up.  Ref stands Behena up.  Behena with a head kick but is the one who falls down.  Gee remains standing.  Ref stands Behena up.  Behena shoots and Gee sprawls.  Gee is in side control while Behena is turtled up.  Gee throwing punches to the head.  End of round.

Round 2:  Gee starts the action with punches.  Wild scramble and Gee gets behind Behena and suplexes him.  Gee remains standing.  Behena is stood up by the ref.  Gee throws a blocked head kick.  Behena tries for punches.  Gee hits Behena with a punch that backs him up.  Behena shoots and Gee sprawls out.  Behena goes for a leg kick and Gee counters with a straight right that knocks Behena down.  Gee gets on top.  Behena grabs a leg but Gee stays in control.  Gee now on top raining punches.  Behena gets half guard.  Behena gives up his back.  Behena covering up while Gee throws down punches.  Referee stops the fight!

Official Decision:  1:43 of rd 2 via TKO; Sean Gee.  (side note:  Gee with a very dominant performance.  Right from when he shrugged off a head kick.  His nickname is “Beast of War” and I’m not arguing with it.  He played spoiler to Behena who has a big fan following here.)


Fight 7:  Jeff Sayre vs. Tim Phinney (Light Heavyweight)

Official Decision:  Jeff Sayre via forfeit.  Tim Phinney was not in the building.

 

Fight 8:  Manny Vasquez vs. Mike Hampton (Bantamweight)

Round 1:  Vasquez starts with punches.  Hampton counters with his own.  Vasquez with a leg kick and he gets out of the way.  Vasquez shoots and Hampton catches his head.  Hampton is looking for the guillotine.  Vasquez gets to side control and is safe.  Vasquez is looking to get his head free.  Hampton is looking to sweep.  Both men are working on the ground to get to a better position.  Vasquez briefly goes to north-south and goes back to side control.  Vasquez throws a knee to the body and another and another.  Both men are very active on the ground.  Hampton switches to full guard briefly and tries to get up and is turtled up.  Vasquez transitions to his back.  Vasquez with a body scissors looking for the choke.  Hampton is defending well.  Vasquez throwing punches to the body and head.  Hampton throwing punches behind him.  End of round.

Round 2:  Circling.  Vasquez goes for a front kick and misses.  Hampton attacks with punches.  Vasquez shoots.  He gets the double and is in side control.  Hampton is holding on to his head.  Hampton is looking to sweep.  Hampton lets his head go.  Vasquez throwing knees to the body.  Vasquez gets full mount.  Hampton is looking to escape.  Vasquez trying to posture up but Hampton holds him down.  Vasquez briefly postures up and is able to throw down a few punches.  Hampton gives up his back.  Vasquez gets the body triangle locked.  Hampton is controlling his wrist.  Vasquez throws some punches to the head.  Vasquez desperately wants the choke.  Hampton throwing punches behind him.  Hampton is trying to buck up.  Vasquez is doing a great job holding him down.  Vasquez throwing some vicious punches to the face of Hampton.  Hampton not giving up and throwing punches behind him.  Vasquez can’t find the choke and throws punches.  End of round.

Round 3:  Vasquez is chasing Hampton.  Vasquez with a push kick.  Vasquez misses a leg kick.  Hampton throws a spinning kick to the body that connects square.  Vasquez looks hurt, but Hampton lets him go.  Vasquez shoots for the double.  Hampton sprawling, but is against the cage.  Vasquez puts Hampton on his butt.  Vasquez is looking for the side control again.  He gets it.  Vasquez throws a knee to the body.  Vasquez is grinding Hampton against the cage.  Vasquez is looking for the mount.  Hampton looking to wall walk.  Scramble and Vasquez gets the full mount.  Hampton gives up his back.  Vasquez gets both hooks and switches to the body triangle.  Vasquez is once again looking for the choke.  Hampton defending well, but can’t escape.  Vasquez with punches and Hampton returns them to him.  Vasquez still can’t find the choke.  End of fight!

Official Decision:  30-27 unanimous decision; Manny Vasquez

 

Fight 9:  Brandon Priest vs (C)Hector Mercado (co-main; Lightweight Championship)

Round 1:  Priest connects first with a straight left.  They exchange punches and Mercado shoots and pushes Priest against the cage.  They move across the cage to the other side.  Mercado on the outside with the clinch.  Both exchange knees to the body and thighs.  Priest shakes Mercado off.  Priest misses a punch and Mercado clinches and pushes against the fence.  They break and Mercado with a body kick.  Priest answers with punches.  Mercado’s head kick is blocked.  They clinch and Mercado throws a knee to the body.  Mercado misses a head kick.  Priest attacks with punches.  He breaks away.  Mercado misses his punches.  Priest counters with punches of his own and connects.  Mercado with a body kick and Priest with a straight left.  Priest punches and Mercado clinches.  Priest pushes him against the cage.  Priest is opening up some lefts and rights.  Mercado breaks away.  Mercado with a push kick.  Priest with an overhand left.  Mercado misses a right hook, but connects with a body kick.  Priest counters Mercado’s punches with a hook.  Priest chases Mercado and Mercado falls to the floor.  Priest pounces on top of him and rains down punches, most of them connecting.  Mercado attempts to push him away.  End of round.

Round 2:  Mercado opens the round with a flying switch kick.  And another.  Both are blocked.  Priest answers with hooks.  Mercado punches.  Priest goes for a head kick and Mercado sweeps his back leg.  Priest to the floor.  Mercado lets him up.  They exchange wild punches.  Mercado clinches and pushes Priest against the fence.  Mercado throws a knee to the thigh.  Priest with some of his own .  Mercado goes for the double and Priest ends up on top in half guard.  Priest is looking to transition.  He gets into side control.  Priest with punches to the head.  Priest with a knee on belly.  He lets off and is back in side control.  Priest is still throwing down punches.  Mercado doesn’t have an answer.  Mercado is defending Priest from getting mount.  Priest postures up.  He is now in Mercado’s full guard.  Priest is raining down heavy punches!  Mercado is just trying to survive.  Mercado’s head is bouncing off the mat.  Priest continues with his barrage of punches.  End of round.  Mercado is slow to get up.

Round 3:  Mercado misses an overhand right and Priest counters with some lefts.  Priest with a nice 1-2 combo.  Priest knocks Mercado down with punches.  Priest in full mount and is raining down heavy punches.  Mercado is just covering up.  Priest is not letting up.  Mercado can’t escape.  Priest keeps going with punches, not slowing down.  Mercado is just covering up and not defending himself.  Referee finally stops the fight!

Official Decision:  1:07 of rd 3 via TKO and NEW FCE LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION, BRANDON PRIEST! (side note:  The referee let that onslaught go on too long.  He should’ve called the fight at the end of the second round.  The finish of the fight lasted way too long.  Mercado wasn’t defending himself any more.  Just covering up hoping not to get hurt any more.)

 

Fight 10:  Azamat Shogenov vs (C)David Gallegos (Main Event: Bantamweight Championship)

Round 1:  Touch gloves.  Gallegos attacks first with a leg kick and Shogenov comes back with punches and kicks.  Gallegos shoots and they scramble.  Shogenov goes down and looks for a knee bar.  He latches on and Gallegos taps out!

Official Decision:  0:34 of rd 1 via tap out due to a toe hold, and NEW FCE BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPTION, AZAMAT SHOGENOV!
