Fight 1:

Trevor Rose vs Johnny Jackson (Muay Thai)

Round 1:  The fighters touch gloves.  Trevor attacks first.  They clinch against the cage.  Jackson is on the outside.  Rose reverses and throws punches to the body.  The ref breaks them apart.  Restart.  Jackson with a vicious front leg kick and a clinch.  He throws knees to the body.  Rose is hit in the body and drops to the ground.  The ref counts to five.  Rose is back up.  Restart.  Rose with a front kick and Jackson with a leg kick.  They get into a clinch.  Ref breaks them apart.  Jackson pushes forward and they clinch.  Broken up.  Jackson with a front leg kick.  Jackson with a jab.  Clinch.  Jakson throwing knees to the body.  Rose reverses and is on the outside.  Break.  Jackson with a front kick.  They clinch and wrestle to the ground.  Rose is slow to get up.  Rose staying on the ground.  The ref stops the fight.

Official Decision:  Jackson at 1:50 in rd 1 via verbal tap out

Side note:  Rose never fully recovered from knee to the body.  But I admired his willingness to keep going.


Fight 2:

Ryan Ferguson vs Mike Bell (145)

Round 1:   The two fighters touch gloves  Ferguson goes for a takedown and gets it.  He pushes Bell against the cage and is inside full guard.  Ferguson is throwing hard blows to the body with his right hand.  Bell is pummeling and trying to get better position or is looking for a sweep.  Ferguson is trying to posture up.  Bell is trying his best to stop it.  Bell opens his guard and closes it back up.  Ferguson is looking to posture up once more and throws heavy rights to the body.  Bell is holding Ferguson down.  Ferguson throws one to the head.  Bell goes for an armbar, Ferguson slips and gets Bell’s back.  Bell is trying to shake Ferguson off.  Ferguson grabs an arm and is looking to finish with an armbar.  Bell postures up.  Bell escapes and Ferguson grabs a leg.  Bell holds onto the cage and escapes.  Bell attacks with some punches.  They clinch against the cage and Ferguson throws knees to the body.  Bell now throwing heavy blows to the body and knees to the thigh.  Ferguson comes back with knees of his own to the body.  Bell is caught grabbing the cage again.  The ref breaks them apart for a low blow by Bell.  Bell is warned with the low blow.  Restart.  Bell with jabs.  Ferguson with a hook and shoots the double and gets it.  He gets Bell’s back and locks on a tight rear naked choke.  Bell is saved by the bell (pun intended).  End of the round.

Round 2:  Bell with some jabs and a push kick.  Ferguson shoots for a takedown and Bell sprawls.  They get back up and throw wild strikes at each other.  Ferguson clinches and Bell pushes him against the cage.  Ferguson changes levels and shoots for the double.  Bell looks to escape and Ferguson gets the takedown and is in full mount.  Ferguson is looking for an arm triangle.  Bell bucks up and sweeps, and is now on top in Ferguson’s full guard.  Bell throws shots to the body with his left.  Ferguson is holding Bell’s head down and is utilizing a high guard.  Bell throws body shots.  Ferguson is holding on tight.  Ferguson is looking for possibly a choke from bottom.  Maybe an arm triangle.  Bell’s head slips out and Ferguson grabs an arm.  Bell lifts him up and slams him.  Bell throws a barrage of head shots.  The ref stops the fight.  Ferguson doesn’t agree.  The fight over.

Official Decision:  Mike Bell at 2:26 rd 2 via referee stoppage due to strikes.

Side note:  Great back and forth, wrestler vs striker type of match.  My pick for fight of the night.


Fight 3:

Jesse Miller vs Tu Warren(Muay Thai)

Round 1:  They touch gloves.  Miller with a leg kick and Warren answers back.  They clinch and trade knees to the body.  Miller is on the outside and looks like he’s winning the knee battle.  Warren throws shots to the mid-section.  Warren is now on the outside but it doesn’t last long.  Miller is the stronger of the two.  Break.  Restart.  Miller with a front kick and a body kick.  They trade punches and Miller throws another beautiful kick to the body.  Miller with a body kick and cross.  Warren answers back with a kick to the body.  Warren throws hooks and uppercuts to the body.  Warren with a knee to the body that makes Miller crumple to the ground.  The ref counts to ten.  Ref stops the fight.  Miller is holding his cup though.  The decision might be reversed.  Miller is slow to get up but not fully recovered.  The fight is being restarted.  They trade body kicks.  Miller with a Thai clinch and is throwing vicious knees to the body.  They trade punches and Warren comes out with a vicious head kick.  Miller falls to the floor.  The ref is counting.  The fight is over.  Miller stays on the ground.

Official Decision:  Tu Warren via head kick KO.

Side note:  No official time given was given.  I spoke to the referee later on and he said that he wasn’t going to give the fight to Warren as I first thought because he knew it was a low blow that originally put Miller on the ground.  Miller however used the entire five minutes to recover and decided to continue fighting.  The head kick by Warren was nasty!


Fight 4:

Michael Manning vs John Rivera(155)

Round 1:  The fighters touch gloves.  Rivera throws a jab, Manning answers with a front kick.  They scramble into a clinch.  Manning is looking for a flying guillotine.  Rivera throws punches to the body.  Heavy punches to the body!  Manning’s guard loosens up.  Rivera almost breaks free.  Manning tightens his grip.  Rivera is trying to slip out.  Rivera’s arm is in.  Manning is tightening his grip even more.  Rivera puts his thumb up to say he’s okay.  Rivera is throwing very heavy punches to the body.  Manning is tightening his guard and his grip on the guillotine.  Rivera is still okay but is trying to slip out.  Rivera slips out and postures up, throwing heavy punches to the head.  Rivera goes for a heel hook.  Manning breaks free and Rivera ends up on top in Manning’s full guard.  Rivera is throwing heavy blows with his right to the body and head.  Manning is holding Rivera down, possibly going for an arm triangle from the bottom.  Rivera slips out.  Rivera throws punches to the head and all of them miss.  End of the round.

Round 2:  Rivera with a jab.  Both go for body kick.  Rivera is smothering Manning with heavy hooks.  Rivera kicks low but the ref doesn’t recognize it.  They scramble and Manning throws Rivera and ends up on top in half guard.  Manning is trying to open up with ground and pound but Rivera is able to avoid his punches.  Manning locks up the head, possibly looking for a guillotine from on top.  Manning switches to punches.  Rivera attempts to wall walk but Manning keeps Rivera down.  Manning moves away from the cage.  Manning is opening up a little bit of punches to the head.  Rivera is just trying to avoid and block.  River attempts to sweep and Manning ends up in full mount.  Rivera tries to buck.  Manning keeps him down and throws down fists to his head.  Rivera is pretty successful in blocking most of them.  Rivera is looking for wrist control.  Manning comes down with double hammer fists that all get blocked.  Manning is missing all of his punches.  Rivera is just able to avoid and block them all.  Manning switches to the body.  Rivera attempting to sweep.  Fails.  End of the round.

Round 3:  Manning stalking Rivera.  They end up in a clinch.  Rivera pushes Manning against the cage.  Rivera with a sweep and ends up on top in half guard.  Manning is looking for a sweep and they get back on their feet.  Manning gets up in the full guard of Rivera and Rivera is holding Manning’s head down but not cranking.  Manning slips out and tries to posture up.  Rivera is looking for an armbar from the bottom.  Manning is trying to slip out and does.  He attempts to get Rivera’s back but ends up on top in half guard.  Manning is throwing punches to the body with his left.  Now with his right.  Manning gets full mount.  Manning is throwing down punches but most are being blocked.  Manning now finds an opening for his punches to Rivera’s head.  Manning going left and right.  Rivera sweeps and ends up on top in Manning’s full guard.  Manning is holding Rivera down.  Rivera’s punches on the ground are harder than Manning’s.  Rivera with hammer fists to Manning’s body and head.  End of the fight.

Official Decision:  Unanimous decision, Michael Manning.

 

Fight 5:

Christian Martinez vs Billy Rose(Muay Thai)

Round 1:  The fighters touch gloves.  Martinez goes for a leg kick and misses.  Martinez with punches to the body and a leg kick.  Rose clinches.  They trade knees to the body and they go down.  Restart.  Martinez with a snapping inside leg kick.  They clinch.  Rose with punches to the body.  Restart.  Rose with a leg kick.  They trade leg kicks.  Martinez is getting the better of it.  They clinch.  They trade knees to the body.  Break.  Restart.  Rose with a jab and Martinez with a leg kick.  They trade punches to the head.  Martinez closes with a leg kick.  They trade snapping leg kicks.  Martinez with hooks to the body.  Rose answers with a leg kick.  They trade leg kicks some more.  They clinch.  Rose with knees to the thigh.  Break.  Restart.  Martinez with a push kick and slips.  They trade straights.  End of the round.

Round 2:  Rose with jabs.  Martinez with leg kicks.  They trade leg kicks.  Rose pushes Martinez to the cage.  They clinch.  They trade knees to the thighs.  Restart.  Martinez with a leg kick.  Rose misses a head kick.  He stalks Martinez and goes for a head kick.  Slightly connects.  They clinch and trade knees, and go down.  Restart.  Martinez gets a warning for hip tossing.  Restart.  Rose with hooks.  Rose with a spinning body kick.  Martinez with a clinch and knees to the body.  Rose comes back with knees of his own.  Rose with punches to the body.  Break.  Restart.  They trade hooks.  Martinez with a heavy left hook.  Martinez with a leg kick and Rose with one of his own.  Martinez with his back against the cage.  Rose stalking.  Rose with a head kick.  Martinez is rattled but doesn’t fall.  They clinch and trade body punches.  End of the round.

Round 3:  The fighters touch gloves knowing that it’s been a great match so far.  Martinez with a leg kick.  Rose comes back with a body kick.  Martinez with hooks.  Rose connects with a heavy cross.  They clinch.  They trade knees to the thigh and body.  Rose with a heavy knee to the stomach.  Martinez seems to be tiring out.  Break.  Restart.  Rose attacks with a hook and body kick.  Rose is swarming Martinez.  They clinch.  Rose pushes Martinez down.  Restart.  Martinez with a front kick.  Rose with a heavy body kick and a head kick.  Martinez trying to push Rose off.  Clinch.  Break.  Restart.  Rose with a clinch and a heavy knee to the body  And another.  They break.  Rose attacking with hooks and straights.  Rose with a body kick.  Martinez defending.  End of the fight!

Official Decision:  Unanimous Decision, Billy Rose

Side note:  Great back and forth, I couldn’t call it.  Lots of action in this one.


Fight 6:

Thaddeus Tomeski vs Thaddeus Nestor(125)

Round 1:  They touch gloves.  Tomeski attacks.  They clinch.  Tomeski with a headlock and Nestor throws him down and gets the takedown.  Tomeski holds on to the head of Nestor.  Nestor slips out and goes for mount and Tomeski sweeps and gets on top.  Nestor holds on to Tomeski’s head.  Tomeski lifts and slams Nestor down.  Nestor keeps holding on.  Tomeski stands straight up and falls back down.  No slam.  Nestor holds on to the guillotine.  Tomeski doesn’t look to be in any real danger.  Tomeski with punches to the body to try and escape.    Nestor’s grip gets tighter.  Tomeski’s punches gets softer.  Tomeski taps out.  End of the fight.

Official Decision:  Thaddeus Nestor at 1:42 rd 1, via guillotine choke.


Fight 7:

Tyson Castro vs Craig Fruth(170)

Round 1:  No glove touching.  The fighters circle around.  Castro is circling to the outside.  Fruth keeps the center of the cage.  Castro with a jab.  He fakes a kick and throws a push kick.  Fruth attacks with punches and shoots for the takedown.  He gets it.  Fruth is in side control against the cage.  Fruth with hard knees to the body and punches to the head.  Castro is looking to wall walk.  Fruth keeps him in control.  Fruth grabs an arm and is looking for a submission.  Castro is trying to shrimp out.  Fruth with more knees to the body and punches to the head.  The ref stands them up.  Castro circles out.  Fruth throws a vicious left hook and knocks Castro down to the ground.  Fruth pounces on Castro and rains down some vicious hammer fists.  The ref stops the fight.

Official Decision:  Craig Fruth at 2:38 in rd 1 via referee stoppage due to strikes.

Side note:  A very impressive and dominant win by Craig Fruth.  He gets on the microphone and says that even though he’s undefeated, he still feels that going pro is at least a year away.


Fight 8:

Reuben Covarrubias vs Jorge Gonzalez(145)

Round 1:  They touch gloves.  Gonzalez opens with a leg kick and another.  Gonzalez throws a front kick.  Gonzalez throws a jab and a cross.  Covarrubias shoots and pushes Gonzalez against the cage.  Covarrubias throws knees to the body.  Gonzalez answers back with knees of his own to the thighs and body.  Covarrubias goes for a leg sweep.  They scramble and Gonzalez ends up on Covarrubias’ back.  Gonzalez softens up Covarrubias with big hammer fists.  Covarrubias leaves his face wide open.  Gonzalez is looking for the choke and Covarrubias is trying to squirm out of it.  Gonzalez has one hook locked in.  Covarrubias tries to shrimp out, but Gonzalez ends up in full mount.  Covarrubias manages to scramble out of it and they return to standing position.  Covarrubias shoots for the takedown and Gonzalez sprawls.  Covarrubias is determined to get the takedown and finally does.  He ends up in Gonzalez’s half guard.  End of the round.

Round 2:  Gonzalez attacks with punches.  They get into a clinch against the cage and Gonzalez throws Covarrubias down.  They scramble and Covarrubias grabs a leg and looks for the takedown.  More scrambling on the ground and Gonzalez ends up on top.  Gonzalez looks for his back.  He can’t get a hold of Covarrubias and Covarrubias finds a leg and tries to get a single while on his knees and gets it.  Covarrubias is in side control.  Gonzalez tries to wall walk, but Covarrubias maintains control.  Covarrubias looks to open up some ground and pound, but Gonzalez blocks most of his strikes.  Covarrubias pushes the action to the center of the cage.  The referee stands them up and most everyone in the building disagrees with this decision.  Gonzalez attacks with punches and backs Covarrubias against the cage.  Gonzalez attacks with more punches and throws a spinning body kick that misses.  Gonzalez goes for a single.  Another small scramble on the ground.  End of the round.

Round 3:  They touch gloves.  Covarrubias comes out with a huge cross and knocks Gonzalez back, but not down.  Gonzalez answers with a leg kick and a body kick.  Covarrubias comes right back with heavy punches.  He gets Gonzalez in a body lock and gets the takedown.  Covarrubias is on top in Gonzalez’s half guard.  Gonzalez holds Covarrubias down, preventing him from posturing up.  Covarrubias advances to full mount.  Gonzalez gives up his back.  Covarrubias gets both hooks locked and rains down some heavy punches to the side of Gonzalez’s head.  Covarrubias is looking for the rear naked choke.  Gonzalez defends by trying to get wrist control.  Gonzalez spins around and looks to be giving up mount to Covarrubias, but manages a very slick backdoor escape.  A brief scramble on the ground and Covarrubias ends up back on top and in side control.  Gonzalez grabs an arm and looks for a kimura.  Covarrubias defends it as the time winds down.  End of the fight.

Official Decision:  Unanimous decision, Jorge Gonzalez

Side note:  Gonzalez gets on the microphone and says he feels he deserves a title shot based on his three or four fights.


Fight 9:

Mike Hernandez vs Mike Reid(170)

Round 1:  Hernandez shoots for a double right away.  There’s a brief scramble on the ground and Hernandez ends up on top in Reid’s full guard.  Reid picks up Hernandez and slams him hard.  Reid postures up and rains down punches.  Hernandez manages to stand back up and there’s a brief scramble.  Hernandez wraps his legs around Reid to pull guard, but Reid slams him down hard once more.  Reid pulls away and they are both back in standing position.  Hernandez goes for a takedown and after another scramble, Reid winds up on top.  Reid gets up.  Hernandez gets back up.  Reid goes for a spinning back fist and misses, and Hernandez shoots the double, but Reid sprawls out of it.  They get back up.  Reid hits Hernandez with a big hook to the body.  Hernandez goes for another takedown, but Reid ends up on top in Hernandez’s half guard.  Reid quickly postures up and rains down some heavy punches.  Reid gets to his feet and brings down an onslaught of heavy punches to a turtled up Hernandez.  The clapper signals ten seconds left in the round, but Reid doesn’t hear it and is relentless in his ground and pound.  The referee finally stops the fight.

Official Decision:  Mike Reid at 2:57 in rd 1 via referee stoppage due to strikes.

Side note:  This is Mike Reid’s MMA debut.  He says he wants to do more MMA fights, but ultimately wants to go pro in boxing.
